Adam Bobeck (University of Leipzig) has reviewed In a Pure Muslim Land. Shi’ism between Pakistan and the Middle East for South Asia. He writes:

“The strength of this book lies in its novelty and profundity. Any reader must appreciate the breadth of references, which includes obscure journals and newspaper articles, interviews, videos, and a wide variety of secondary literature. In a Pure Muslim Land will be of particular interest to those working in the growing field of transnational Shi’i networks because it provides a rich account of how these networks extend beyond the assumed centres of Shi’i Islam, such as Iran. Indeed, Fuchs demonstrates that Pakistan is not merely on the receiving end of knowledge production.”
