1/9 Modern Shi’i Islam as we know it would not exist without South Asia. It all starts in #Lucknow in North India. From 1775-1856, the city was the capital of the state of Awadh (or Oudh). Its Shi’i rulers, the nawwabs, used splendid architecture to propagate their faith. pic.twitter.com/v6KLJSmMrA
